 When I started as Supervising Art Director on Doctor Who in 2004, it was immediately clear that the show was design-led. 

From the very beginning, all I could think about was how to show the world the incredible talent we had in Wales, alongside the fantastic work we were creating for the series. I felt it would be special to have a single document that could showcase it all.

The book brings together designs from the Classic series through to Series Eight of the modern era. It reveals the journey designers take to reach a final concept and the conversations that shape that process — whether it’s monster creation, set design, props, weapons, or the visualisation of an entire scene. 

Impossible Worlds opens the door to the inner workings of Doctor Who’s design process and shows how the creative engine behind the series really ticks.

Impossible Worlds was published in October 2015. In 2016, it won Best Doctor Who Book (Non-Fiction) in Doctor Who Magazine’s readers’ poll and continues to be loved by fans and art lovers alike.
